Tasto Duo
MONDRY&PAINE
Tasto Duo Mondry&Paine is an ensemble established in 2017, active in the realm of original and newly composed early music for two keyboard instruments. Weronika Paine (*1995) and Nathan Mondry (*1991) have been working together in the pursuit of beauty, authenticity, and quality, by researching the expert intricacies of historically informed performance practice whilst also reconsidering the role of early music in the 21st century.
Weronika and Nathan’s vast creativity and diverse interests are reflected in their multifaceted education, covering specialisations such as the harpsichord, the organ, historical pianos, composition, and improvisation practices. Their studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland allowed for an intense early development through fruitful and concentrated periods of rehearsal and discussion, resulting in an acquaintance with the aesthetic specificity of historical styles, the fruition of numerous concert programs, and the establishment of a polished and sophisticated language of expression as the foundation of the ensemble.
The 2020 pandemic caused a hiatus in the ensemble’s shared activities, though this did not prevent its members from pursuing further education. Broadening their existing experience with additional degrees at the Schola Cantorum and Juilliard, Weronika and Nathan have continued refining their artistic visions both independently and (whenever possible) together through further periods of rehearsal and discussion. As their paths of education have recently reached their closure, both musicians now seek to expand the ensemble’s role as a meaningful and significant part of each of their artistic agendas.
